Flamingo painting #2 - November 30th

Today I decided to bring more birds from the big group to my daily painting, again it is a study of Flamingoes in oils, but this time I tried to keep it looser, not so detailed.

Please consider that in the last 2 posts, the 2 Flamingo's paintings, I could not get to take pictures that depict the true colors of the birds and the ground, I will try to take more pictures when the sunny days are back :)

Flamingo painting - November 29th

This one is a study of a Flamingo bird for a future larger painting, some time ago I took a picture of a wonderful group of Flamingoes at Tyler zoo, now I painted only one from the group with some landscape background. There will be a video on YouTube about the process of this painting. I am not sure when I will start the larger piece with probably the whole group of birds, but I hope it will be soon. Red poppies - October 23rd.

Today I've just finished this painting which belongs to the series " Abstract Nature", it is oil on stretched canvas, there is another that I completed yesterday but is unstretched and the pictures I took inside my studio are not very good, I will try to take new pictures tomorrow and post that painting too. It is not easy to handle this kind of highly textured impasto paintings when they are unstretched, to take them outside my studio and take a good picture with natural light, I try to let them settle and not move them too much the first days after I complete them.

Monica at the Red River Revel - October 2008

Hi ! I'm back ! I have been showing and selling my work at the Red River Revel Arts Festival in Shreveport, Louisiana. This was my second year at the festival and it was really beautiful. I have been working several extra hours a day on my larger pieces preparing for a couple of upcoming shows now in October, so I decided to go a little smaller in size for my daily paintings so I can continue with this project and at the same time keep working on the regular paintings. Today I went outside and started a little sketch in graphite and colored graphite of one of the trees across from the county road, I applied a fixative to the finished work for protection.

I completed this painting on September 9th., it was a big challenge to make this frame with this shape and then stretch the canvas on it !, everything is hand made so it was like trying something new, then after it was ready I had to decide what to paint, and these days I am really inspired on these trees, and the sky-blue poppies and a lot of green floliage.
